This is typical of the lakes hiding in amongst the Southern Alps of New Zealand. In the midst of winter the short days and bitterly cold frosty days invite a thick glassy ice across the lakes. The brave venture out on ice skates, while the less keen pass by in awe on a four wheel drive excursion.
